Actively responding to the global artistic call of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network for the action “Weaving Hope”, the UNESCO Global Geopark Vikos-Aoos sends its own heartfelt message of hope and sustainability to the 2025 Conference in Chile.
Our woven piece, titled “Biodiversity”, was crafted exclusively with 100% wool from mountain sheep breeds and dyed with natural colors extracted from herbs native to the Zagori region. Every thread carries the essence of our land and our deep-rooted respect for nature and culture.
What is “Weaving Hope”?
As part of the 11th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks (2025), the UNESCO Global Geopark Kutralkura and the Catholic University of Temuco (Chile) invite all Geoparks to create a unique textile piece that reflects their own cultural heritage.
These individual pieces will be joined together into one large collective tapestry, which will:
- Be exhibited at the conference venue
- Later be offered to the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, as a lasting symbol of unity, hope, and cultural cooperation
The collective artwork will highlight:
- The connections among Geoparks
- The diversity of our cultures
- Our shared commitment to inclusion, sustainability, and holistic development
- Together, we are weaving hope – with every thread, every story, every Geopark!
